Star-Spangled Sour Cherry Pie
Happy 4th of July (for all of us in America that is!) I hope everyone is enjoying a day off spend with friends and family. Although this is not a favorite holiday of mine (too hot and humid here usually), I do love lots of the dessert options it creates. This year I knew I wanted to make something with sour cherries.

Berry Lime Pound Cake (Egg-Free)
It recently came to my attention through a joking Instagram post that most people are super frustrated by the “endless” scrolling involved to get to a recipe in a blog post. I had no idea! I briefly felt embarrassed that I did not know. Hopefully I have not been boring everyone with my writing!

Cranberry Apple Crumble Pie
As I have mentioned here before, I have always loved Christmas. I really like buying gifts, wrapping them beautifully, decorating the house, and baking and cooking delicious things. It’s never felt like a chore…until now.

Pumpkin Spice Cupcakes with Vanilla Buttercream
The stretch of time between the appearance of the first PSL (pumpkin spice latte) in September and Thanksgiving is pumpkin’s time to shine. I’ve written here before about the increased interest in other fall flavors, but pumpkin is still king. I know some people think pumpkin spice is “basic”, but I am not one of them. Pumpkin (and all squash) is delicious and pumpkin with warm spices is even better. But obviously a PSL is more about the spice (and sugar) than actual pumpkin.

Simplest Chocolate Mousse
Like many Americans, I am obsessed with the Great British Baking Show. It is a balm for the soul. I love how it is a reality competition, but the winner only gets bragging rights, and a cake stand. The contestants are all kind and supportive of each other. I hope the newer versions, both British and American, can keep the spirit of the show. I enjoy it so much more than all the intense, cut-throat cooking competitions that are everywhere these days.

Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies
Discovering your child has food allergies is hard. As a new parent, I was aware food allergies were a possibility. I even know several people with allergies, so it was definitely front of mind. Yet it somehow seemed impossible that my baby would have any issues. I guess like any serious health condition, you feel immune – until you’re not.

Mixed Berry Crisp
As I predicted in my last post, I have less time for this blog now, post-baby, than I did during pregnancy. Silly me, I didn’t even know how tired you could be then! My pregnancy was not easy, but I don’t think anything prepares you for the way becoming a parent sucks your energy away. Forget baking, most days I’m proud of myself if I found time to actually make dinner, versus moving something from freezer to microwave.

Peppermint Swirl Marshmallows
It’s sadly been another long period since I posted here, but I am back with a great recipe! The reason for my long absence this time was partially technical difficulties with WordPress, but mainly technical difficulties with my life. As I write this, I am 34 weeks pregnant with my first child. My husband and I are thrilled (and nervous, and scared) to be becoming parents, but there has been a lot to do to get ready. Just being pregnant in general is hard on the body, so its been difficult to find the energy to bake, take pictures, and write blog posts. When I have been in the kitchen,…

Apple Cake with Maple Cream Cheese Frosting
I heard from a friend recently that maple might be the new pumpkin spice. It’s been reported in a few places that, while pumpkin spice is not necessarily finished, interest in maple is on the rise. It may be the new flavor that helps us get into a fall mood. I think that is great news. I have always loved maple syrup, and like Buddy the Elf, I consider it a staple of my diet and baking. It’s great on lots of foods of obvious foods (pancakes, waffles, oatmeal) and some less obvious ones (butternut squash, carrots, salad dressing sweetener).

Best-Ever Apple Crisp
According to the calendar, fall began last week with the equinox. According to major coffee chains and supermarkets, fall began at the start of September, when tons of pumpkin spice flavored items began appearing. (It’s actually gotten a little out of hand. I like pumpkin spice just fine, but pumpkin spice cereal? I’m expecting pumpkin spice scented toilet paper any day now). However, according to mother nature, fall has not yet arrived, at least in the DC area. The weather has been hot and humid and not at all accommodating of my desire to wear cosy sweaters and sip hot apple cider. This is not unusual; September is basically still…
